Abstract

P.S. I Love You (2007) is a romantic comedy that deals with a man's early death by
cancer and his wife's grief. Before he died, the man wrote her a series of letters that
will guide her, not only through her sorrow, but also in rediscovering herself. The
soundtrack mainly draws upon a pop song, »Love You 'Till The End«, which takes on
a very crucial role in many ways. The song functions as a reminder to the wife of her
deceased husband when she dreams or hallucinates. It also encourages her to express herself in public, disguising her individual emotions in a collective mood. The soundtrack uses stylistic means that refer to Irish folk music (evoking an impression of Irishness), especially in scenes that take place in Ireland. Finally, the pop score displays a particular realm of pop culture and its soundscapes.
