Abstract

This cross-sectional study was designed to examine the way young people perceive music together with the significance of music in the context of their political interests. To test this, a paper-pencil-questionnaire (JuMP) was constructed and pilot-tested by the authors. The final questionnaire featured 125 items containing open and closed answers. A sample of 1357 students (7th to 10th grade) was obtained from German secondary schools. Data were analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results revealed major differences between the musical perception of male and female students, as well as between the political interests of students from different school types.
